You may have heard about worldwide shortages of certain diabetes medications.
Specifically, the supply of the GLP-1s (Victoza, Byetta, Trulicity, and Ozempic), which have been disrupted because of increased demand by people using them to lose weight.
Our pharmacy is currently facing an intermittent shortage of Victoza. The manufacturer estimates this to continue until July 2024.
For patients using Victoza from our pharmacy, we will contact you to discuss a temporary substitution. The substitution may be twice-daily Byetta or initiating a prior authorization for Ozempic or Trulicity. (For patients using a pharmacy other than Valley View, please speak with your pharmacist regarding you prescription options.)
Due to the shortage, we are temporarily not dispensing the medication for those using them for weight loss. This is so we can prioritize patients with diabetes.
We want to assure you that this decision is based on the scarcity of the medication and the need to prioritize patients managing diabetes. These medications primarily address blood glucose control and reduce the risk of heart and kidney issues.
We understand the importance of GLP-1s for weight loss. Right now, our focus is making sure that those relying on these medications for diabetes management have continued access.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this shortage. We remain committed to providing you with the highest quality of care.
