Emergency Room vs. Walk-In/Same-Day Visits?

Are you unsure whether you should go to the straight to the Emergency Room or go to the Walk-In Clinic (or call to schedule a Same-Day Clinic Visit)? Here is some guidance to help you determine which care makes the most sense for you…

Go to the Emergency Room (Call 911 if needed) for:

  • Chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing
  • Signs of stroke (sudden weakness, facial droop, speech changes)
  • Severe allergic reactions or swelling of the face/throat
  • Major injuries, uncontrolled bleeding, or head trauma
  • Loss of consciousness, seizures, or severe confusion
  • Severe abdominal pain or any life-threatening emergency

Same-Day Clinic Appointments (or Walk-In Visits) Are Appropriate For:

  • Coughs, colds, flu, COVID-19 symptoms, or sore throat
  • Ear pain, sinus infections, or pink eye
  • Urinary symptoms (burning, frequency, possible UTI)
  • Mild to moderate asthma flare-ups or breathing concerns
  • Rashes, skin infections, minor burns, or insect bites
  • Sprains, strains, minor injuries, or back pain
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or other non-emergency concerns

Still unsure where to go? Call our office and our team can help determine the best level of care for your situation.

Please note:

  • Our primary care medical clinics require an appointment.
  • The Centralia Walk-In Clinic is walk-in only (appointments cannot be scheduled in advance).
